The first USS Florida was a sloop, which served between 1824 and 1831, as a survey ship under the command of Lieutenant T.R. Gedney. The second Florida was a side wheel steamer commisioned in 1861 with Lieutenant J.R. Goldsborough as skipper. Repaired and decommissioned three times during the Civil War, she was used as a supply transport until 1867.
